Who’s blogging?
Just me – tish.
Thanks for checking out my blog. I hope to share with you my love of amateur photography and the many ideas I have on how to put those photos to better use — for yourself, your family and friends. We’ll explore how easy and inexpensive it is to make:
- photo memory books
- little photo booklets
- banners
- children’s memory books
- grandparent brag books
- … and so much more.
It will be fun and it will be creative.
Who Am I? I’m a writer, blogger, traveler, pet owner, wife and mom – and I’m an amateur photo buff who loves taking photos of everything. For the last several years, I’ve blogged about girlfriend getaways on travelswithtish.com. For every getaway I take with a girlfriend, I snap 100 or more photos and put my best ones on the blog.
(I can even boast that I snapped a couple of good shots of Brett Favre as he ran out on to Lambeau Field for his last home game with the Green Bay Packers — before he became a Jet and now a Viking!)
Way Too Many Digital Photos? Have you acquired innumerable digital photos? Me, too! Where do you keep them?
- CDs
- DVDs
- Flash drives
- A computer that runs painfully slow because of all the photos on it
Countless Old Photos, Too? Have you also inherited countless hard-copy photos of weddings that occurred long before you was born, of distant aunts and uncles, grandparents as children and all the snapshots your family took as you were growing up? Some of my old photos are in albums – some. (You know how that goes?) Most are still in photo envelopes stashed in big boxes under the bed, in the spare closet and up in the attic.
Who Throws Away Old Photos? No one that I know — you’re supposed to keep them for future generations. They’re memories. But I’ve always wondered if there was a better way to keep those happy moments of the past alive and not drying out in old boxes.
Endless ideas. Easy to do. Inexpensive.
Lifephoto.com
Pro-quality digital printing for everyday photo buffs
I recently started working for Lifephoto.com and discovered it owns a digital photography production house that serves the commercial photography industry. This is where your wedding photographer gets your proofs turned into portraits. It’s where ad agencies get those spectacular color prints made into wall-size banners. In other words, it’s where the pro’s go when they want high quality photo production for their clients.
It’s a fun place to work. The walls are filled with gorgeous photos far beyond the capability of my Kodak EasyShare. The work tables and shelves hold an ever-changing selection of client memory books, anniversary books, calendars, banners, cards and other gifts made with photos. The environment absolutely stimulates creative ideas.
Making fun gifts with my photos. Every time I walk through the lab, I get a new idea for using my photos. I started with a quick little book for my daughter – Betsy’s Feathered and Furry Friends – capturing photos of all the pets she’s had throughout her life – from puppies to kittens to baby chicks. I think she’ll get a kick out of remembering how much fun her pets have been. It will be a one-of-a-kind gift that she’ll treasure forever.
You can make fun photo gifts, too. My blog will help you think of creative ways to share your photos. It will offer you tips on all things photo:
- how to take great photos
- how to “pose” children, pets, groups
- which photos to use
- how to improve the color
- when to use flash
- how to get better quality shots with your camera
- how to crop photos to get the “real” picture within the photo
- tips from professional photographers
- tips on using photo-editing software
And I’ll guide you through the simple online process of creating your own photo books and other memorable gifts. Follow along as we find new ways to share the photos that have captured the best times of our our lives.
